Tortoises are quickly becoming crowd favorites at the pet shops nationwide and the Tortoise and Turtle Trust has released the following information for all would-be-owners in order to better educate the buying public:
- Opt for captive bred turtles, as they are less likely to carry parasites.
- Always choose a large turtle tank as these shelled creatures can grow up pretty fast, out growing small tanks which seemed suitable only months before
- Keep an eye on your tortoise as although they may be slow, they need a quite bit of room to move around.
- Tortoises are generally vegetarians so you don’t have to worry about messy foods like worms.
- Keep tanks and areas where the tortoise roams free of clutter and dirt. They are not the most intelligent animals and so require you to think for them, removing object and harmful debris out of their path.
