Rare reptiles find Garage home

With great fascination, a young Jordan Davidson used to watch the late Australian naturalist Steve Irwin, also known as the Crocodile Hunter, on television. Now, at the tender age of just 14 years old, he is the proud owner of two of the world's rarest lizards – the endangered Fiji iguanas.

Jordan, from the Longridge village in West Lothian, Scotland, was able to buy these ‘rarest of rare’ iguanas after the window company that provided glass for his aquariums agreed to sponsor him. Agreeing to sponsor a teenage lizard enthusiast is not a common business decision taken by many companies but the West Lothian glaziers were so taken by Jordan’s enthusiasm for the lizards they couldn’t say no.

Jordan Davidson's other pets include bosc monitor lizards, chameleons, bearded dragons and a royal python. In addition to that, he has 25 baby (bearded) dragons, 20 new reptilian hatchlings and 27 reptile eggs in an Reptile Incubator located in what was his parent’s garage.

The iguanas bought by Davidson are the only ones of their type in the whole country. In fact, only three zoos in Europe keep the endangered Fiji iguanas in their reptile houses. These beautiful emerald green lizards, which can grow up to a length of 80cm, have often been described as ‘the most beautiful lizards on earth’. Jordan has named them Rhubarb and Custard, and he hopes to donate the lizards to Edinburgh Zoo after successfully breeding them later next year.
