The Kingsnakes and milksnakes are some of the most beautiful of the world's snakes. They are found in a wide range of colours and patterns.  Some have spots, some have bands or rings around the body, and some have stripes from head to tail.

Many are coral snake mimics with bright red, yellow (or white) and black bands or rings.  This great variety makes the kingsnakes and milksnakes very popular captives.

Their bright, sharply contrasting colours and crisp patterns invariably tend to elicit "Oh!" and "Ah!" exclamations from non-reptile enthusiasts as well.  Their small size, simple cage requirements, easily supplied diet (for most subspecies), adaptability to life in captivity, and gear splendor have made them popular with beginning hobbyists as well as more advanced herpetoculturists.

Bob Applegate is one of the most respected people working with Kingsnakes and Milksnakes today. His goal with this book is to provide the reader with essential information for the long-term care and maintenance of this beautiful and variable group of animals.
