Komodo Cuttlebones are practically an essential item for those keeping hard-shelled reptiles like tortoises and turtles.
A natural product taken from a Cuttlefish, they are extremely rich in calcium - incredibly important to turtles and tortoises for developing not just strong bones but hard shells too. Without a good supply of it, their shells can become soft, a symptom of Metabolic Bone Disease (MBD), which can be painful, and potentially fatal.
Not only that, but because it comes in a form that your tortoise or turtle will simply nibble at, it helps to keep their beaks trimmed too, however if your pet isn't up for a nibble, it can be easily ground up and used as a food supplement - a turtle/tortoise salad dressing!
To allow your tortoise to have a go at it, simply place it in their terrarium or tortoise table, and for aquatic turtles, it tends to float but can be strapped to the side of their tank or a rock too.
