Help and advice on shopping for: Artificial Plants

Easy to maintain terrarium and vivarium decoration

While plants make a fantastic addition to a terrarium, they aren’t always practical and can take extra upkeep. We’ve created a range of easy to manage artificial plants to decorate your enclosure, including many of our own products as well as those from Exo Terra, Komodo and more.

What are artificial plants?

Artificial plants are plants made from wax, plastic and silk that are designed to be permanent ornaments. Unlike real plants, these products won’t wilt, have little need for upkeep and will last several years at a time. Many animals enjoy artificial plants as they can use them as hides or even climb them.

Why should I buy artificial plants?

Artificial plants have all the benefits of live plants with none of the drawbacks. They require no upkeep and always look like they're in bloom, so you can be certain your enclosure will always look the best. They also make a good choice for enclosures with larger animals, like Bearded dragons, that might damage live plants. Most of our range is pretty low cost and easily cheaper than real plants thanks to their lack of upkeep costs. Most artificial plants can be used in any enclosure, no matter what size or temperature.

What are the main types of artificial plants?

Artificial plants vary depending on the type of plant they are attempting to recreate. Some artificial plants try to recreate plants in the same colour as the original plant, creating a natural look. While others recreate plants in bright or uncommon colours to create a more eye-catching display.

What should I look for?

When choosing artificial plants we recommend picking the ones that you like and think will do in your enclosure. Some reptile keepers like to try and match their pet’s natural habitat but it’s entirely up to you and the style of enclosure you want to create.
