Help and advice on shopping for: Livefood Feeders

Keep your livefood in one place

A lot of livefood can be tricky to handle and can quickly run or burrow away from your reptile, making it hard for them to eat and occasionally leaving them without a feed. To help ensure your reptile gets all of its livefood we have a range of useful livefood feeders including products from Exo Terra, Komodo and Lucky Reptile.

What are livefood feeders?

Livefood feeders are various types of bowls designed to keep livefood in one place while your pet captures it and eats it. Most livefood feeders are high-walled and lipped bowls, however, there are some different styles designed to hold specific species such as flies and worms.

Why should I buy livefood feeders?

Livefood feeders minimise the risk of a livefood escape, make it easier for your pet to hunt their prey and are fairly cheap. They tend to be made from durable plastic or resin, so they will stand the test of time and may even be reused for multiple pets. Fly and mealworm feeders are particularly useful as they encourage hunting behaviour.

What are the main types of livefood feeders?

We sell four types of livefood feeders; general feeders, mealworm feeders, fly feeders and shallow feeders. General feeders are large plastic bowls designed to hold most livefood. Mealworm feeders are small cups with a mesh base that lets worms poke out so they can be preyed upon by your pet. Fly feeders hold fly eggs and immature flies while allowing large flies to escape into your enclosure, where they can be eaten. Shallow feeders are used to hold worms and small feeds, such as snails for Pink tongue skinks or fruit beetle grubs for Chinese water dragons, to allow your reptile to easily reach them.

What should I look for?

When shopping for a livefood feeder consider the type of livefood you are serving and pick the feeder that will best accommodate that. If you’re struggling to pick between a couple of livefood feeders we recommend picking the one that you think will fit into your terrarium or vivarium the best.
