Help and advice on shopping for: UV Kits
A complete lighting solution
UV bulbs need to be paired with a controller and reflector to fully function. If you’re creating a new terrarium or vivarium that can be a lot to manage and buy but with a UV kit, you get all of it in one bundle. Our UV kits come from a range of top supplies including Arcadia and Reptile Systems.
What are UV kits?
These kits contain bulbs, controllers and reflectors so you have everything you need to create a lighting set-up. UV bulbs produce UVA and UVB which many animals, including reptiles, use to power certain biological processes. Controllers are light fittings that power the bulbs and are used to turn them on and off. Reflectors are reflective mirrors that redirect light back into your enclosure so none gets lost shining away from your enclosure.
Why should I buy UV kits?
UV kits are the perfect solution for anyone creating a new terrarium or vivarium as they contain everything you need to get started with a lighting system. Often these kits work out much cheaper than buying each of the parts separately, however, they are also quite general and may need the right bulb adding to them for more specialist setups. Some of these kits even come with linking cables, which allow you to ‘daisy chain’ multiple kits together to create a larger setup.
What are the main types of UV kits?
Each UV kit is slightly different but they are most easily divided by the type of light they produce. As many animals need different intensities of light, there are a wide variety of kits that offer different amounts of UVA and UVB. It’s important to take note of the size and wattage of your UV kit as well, this will help you to buy replacement bulbs when you need them.
What should I look for?
Looking for the right UV kit can be difficult but your animal’s needs should always come first. Research exactly what light your pet needs and try to match it as closely as possible. If you are still stuck between a few kits, try to choose the most efficient one to minimise the burden it will have on your energy bills.
