- Natural decoration for blackwater aquariums
- Made up of antioxidant cashew leaves
- Will break down naturally and slowly over a few days
Cashew Leaves are ideal for adding to aquariums to promote the natural effect, to be used as leaf litter along the bottom which is even more effective when used alongside other natural leaves, seeds and pods, such as Indian Almond (Catappa) leaves, with known healing properties.
The Cashew leaves are all harvested and dried naturally, and contain no pesticides. As natural products, they do vary in size, shape and colouration, and our pack of 10 are around 15cm x 8cm each, though you will get some bigger or smaller. As with most leaf litter, they will naturally float when placed in the tank, and can be left like this for a few days or a week, or you can choose to boil them for 30 - 45 minutes which waterlogs them and ensures they sink going into your aquarium.
Cashew leaves are known to have many beneficial affects, though none have been studied or proven within an aquarium, but they are known to be an antiseptic, as well as being rich in antioxidants with antifungal, antiparasitic, antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties.
Most leaf litter naturally produces a biofilm that invertebrates and catfish will feed from, and these will also produce algal growth for them to feed from too, as well as foraging areas for natural feeding instincts. When crushed up alongside other leaf litter this will sink and create a perfect flooring, which is very effective when used with live plants.
