Determining the sex of your snake isn't always possible just from looking at them. If you're curious whether your snake is male or female, then it may be worth using specialist equipment to work out the sex of your reptile.
Swell Professional Sexing Probes are designed to accurately give you the answers that you're looking for.
Sexing of reptiles can be extremely important if you want to place two reptiles together in order to breed. On the other hand, you might want to prevent breeding by placing two snakes of the same sex together. Male snakes have a pair of hemipenes that usually sit inside the snake along the tail. Probing a snake involves inserting a thin metal rod into the vent. The sex is determined by how deep into the snake the probe will go. If the probe will only go in slightly, then the snake is more likely to be female.
If at all you find yourself unsure of what you are doing when using probing equipment, we recommend contacting a vet rather than going ahead with the task yourself. Snakes can be seriously injured if the probe is entered incorrectly.
