Help and advice on shopping for: Invertebrates for sale

Unique and exotic pets

Invertebrates, including spiders, millipedes, scorpions and snails, have been growing in popularity in recent years and are quickly becoming a ‘must-have’ pet among hobbyists. We stock a wide range of invertebrates at Swell Reptiles, including Tarantulas, Asian forest scorpions and Bumblebee millipedes.

What are Invertebrates?

Invertebrates are a massive group of animals including Spiders, Millipedes, Scorpions and Snails. In fact, the term Invertebrate just means ‘no backbone’ and can be applied to a lot more animals than you might think. Invertebrates generally make interesting and easy pets, exhibiting lots of interesting behaviours and abilities. If you’re interested in adopting an Invertebrate, you must come into our store where we will interview you and ask to see an image of the enclosure the Invertebrate will be kept in before selling it to you. We reserve the right to refuse the sale of a pet to anyone we feel is ill-prepared to care for it.

Why should I buy an Invertebrate?

Invertebrates are often particularly easy to care for, they tend to have very few needs and will happily live in a smaller enclosure than Reptiles and Amphibians. However, most Invertebrates are unable to recognise their owners, meaning that you are unlikely to get much affection from them. Invertebrates are some of the most affordable animals to get set up and maintain.

What are the main types of Invertebrate?

Our Invertebrates are broken up into four different groups; Millipedes, Scorpions, Tarantulas and Snails. Millipedes are long, segmented invertebrates with many legs. Scorpions are predators with eight limbs, including two claws and a stinging tail that make particularly interesting exotic pets. Tarantulas are large and intelligent arachnids that are the most popular Invertebrate pets. Snails are molluscs with large shells that are generally quite easy to keep.

What should I look for when purchasing an Invertebrate?

When buying an Invertebrate it’s important to ensure that everyone in your household is comfortable with the pet’s presence and that you are comfortable looking after the creature for a considerable amount of time. Some Invertebrates can live as long as 30 years and must be cared for daily, meaning that you must be confident in your commitment before making a purchase. We also recommend doing lots of research before adopting any animal to ensure you know exactly how to help it thrive.
