Help and advice on shopping for: Reptile Moss

Designed to retain a lot of moisture

Reptile moss increases humidity in terrariums, making it perfect for reptiles or amphibians that require high humidity levels. We carry a great selection of reptile moss from major brands, as well as our own premium range.

What is reptile moss?

Reptile moss is a practical substrate that is used in humid environments alongside other substrates. Generally, moss can hold and absorb a large amount of water and they do well in super-humid terrariums, which are ideal habitats for reptiles. Some moss is sold living and can continue to grow, while other moss is sold dead - both are equally absorbent and suitable for use as substrate.

Why should I buy reptile moss?

Aside from adding a decorative accent to your naturalistic terrarium, reptile moss is ideal for encouraging your reptile's natural behaviour, including shedding, burrowing, and nesting. Excellent for rainforest reptiles or those who enjoy high humidity, it retains moisture and therefore it adds to the humidity levels in a vivarium or terrarium, allowing your reptile to really thrive.

What are the benefits of Sphagnum moss?

Sphagnum Moss is a natural substrate for amphibians and wetland environment reptiles. Great for use in humidifying shelters it is also excellent for use as an egg-laying and incubation medium. Sphagnum Moss substrates make ideal nesting and incubating substrates, retaining heat and moisture to provide an encouraging place for your reptile to lay eggs, and it can be transferred to an incubator to moisturise the eggs in there, keeping them at the right temperature and aiding the development of the embryos inside the eggs, helping you gain healthy reptile hatchlings when the time comes.

What should I look for?

To choose the right moss for your reptile, you need to consider its native habitat and what kind of flooring it is comfortable on. Understanding each substrate's properties is also critically important, so you can use your terrarium or vivarium setup to overcome any shortcomings.
