Help and advice on shopping for: Live Crickets
A live food classic
Crickets are easily one of the most popular live foods for reptiles as they are a great source of protein for a wide variety of species. Our crickets range includes several different cricket species supplied in a variety of different ways.
What are crickets?
Crickets are a popular live food in the reptile keeping community as they come in a few varieties that are palatable to a wide variety of reptiles. They are generally non-aggressive and take almost no upkeep. Their ability to jump presents a little hunting challenge for many reptiles making them good for encouraging feeding instincts. Crickets can also be kept alive relatively easily, so as long as you have a large live food enclosure you can store many at once.
Why should I buy crickets?
Crickets are a low-cost and easy to keep live food choice, ideal for a wide variety of reptile species. They made a fantastic choice if you need to care for several reptiles at once. Maintaining crickets is fairly easy as well, they need to be kept dry and well-fed, so set your live food container in a dry area and supply them with plenty of live food feed. Crickets can be a little noisy, so you may want to find a storage solution for them with some soundproofing.
What are the main types of crickets for sale?
We sell two different types of crickets; brown crickets and black crickets. Brown crickets are several different types of crickets including Silent, Banded and House crickets that are all quite small and share similar characteristics. Black crickets are larger and are best for big reptiles as they can be a bit more aggressive and require a little more care, including being kept between 20-25 degrees Celcius. Each type of cricket is sold in pre-pack sets, where you can select the exact size of cricket you want, and bulk sets, containing mass quantities for feeding many reptiles.
What should I look for?
When buying crickets check that they are suitable for the species of your pet and that you have everything you need to house them correctly, including a live feed enclosure, food and care supplements.
