Help and advice on shopping for: Salamanders
Adopt a unique Salamander
A truly unique pet to have around, Salamanders are available in a range of colourations and sizes within the exotic pet hobby. The most popular example is easily the Fire salamander, but other popular examples include the Fire-bellied newt and the ever-popular, fully aquatic Axolotl.
What are Salamanders?
Salamanders are a group of Amphibians that can be distinguished by their slender, lizard-like bodies and long tails, and can be terrestrial, amphibious or fully aquatic. The group can be further divided into three distinct groups, the Giant salamanders, including the Hellbender, the Advanced salamanders, including the Axolotl and Sirens, including the huge and interesting Greater siren.
Why should I buy a Salamander?
No matter whether you choose a terrestrial Fire salamander, or a fully aquatic Axolotl, keeping a Salamander as a pet is sure to be a fun and exciting experience. Being amphibians, Salamanders are not handling pets, but watching them interact with their surroundings and hunt their prey can be truly a spectacle, making them extremely rewarding pets to have around.
What are the main types of Salamander?
There are over 500 species of Salamander in the order Urodela, split across 10 families. Salamanders can be fully aquatic, semi-aquatic or completely terrestrial, although the terrestrial examples will still require a good water source within their enclosures. We have a rotating stock at Swell Reptiles, meaning species tend to come and go based on availability, but we often have Fire salamanders and Axolotls for sale.
What should I look for when purchasing a Salamander?
If you would like to take home one of our Salamanders, you will need to take a trip into our physical Swell Superstore, bringing with you some photos of your set-up. We will ask a few quick questions and also ask to see your set-up images before we allow to take home one of these wonderful animals. We reserve the right to refuse adoption to anyone we feel is unprepared to adopt.
