Help and advice on shopping for: Millipede Livestock
A unique insect to adopt
Millipedes are one of the most fun and interactive Invertebrates you can adopt. Incredibly unique and interesting, these many-legged friends are a breeze to care for and well worth keeping.
What are Millipedes?
Millipedes are a special group of invertebrates known for having long, segmented bodies with lots and lots of legs. While you can find some Millipedes in almost every habitat and continent, the largest specimens are found in Africa. Millipedes are thought to be some of the oldest species still living on Earth today, with a history that dates back to well before the dinosaurs.
Why should I buy a Millipede?
Millipedes are fantastic pets as they are harmless and often tolerate handling, are easy to care for and are quite fun to watch. Millipedes are easy to handle and are very docile, making them great pets to play with. However, it’s important to note that Millipedes can secrete an irritating liquid when stressed, so you must either wear gloves or thoroughly wash your hands after handling them. Millipede enclosures are quite easy to build and take little money or effort to maintain.
What are the main types of Millipede?
There are over 12,000 species of millipedes and many of them are suitable for adoption as pets. We have a rotating stock of Millipedes for adoption, so the only way to know which species we have is to check this webpage. Our most popular millipede is the Giant african millipede which is a favourite in the Invertebrate keeping community.
What should I look for when purchasing a Millipede?
If you would like to adopt a Millipede you must first create an enclosure, take some pictures of it and come to visit our Swell Superstore. At the store, we will interview you and look at the pictures of your enclosure to ensure you are prepared to care for a Millipede. We reserve the right to deny the adoption of a Millipede to any we feel is unprepared to care for it.
