Help and advice on shopping for: Compact Vivariums

Save space without losing comfort

Compact vivariums shave a little room off their larger cousins, allowing them to be placed more easily in a home where space is at a premium. In our range of compact vivariums, you’ll find enclosures for many species from leading reptile brands including both VivExotic and King British.

What are compact vivariums?

Compact vivariums are the same as regular reptile vivariums except that they sacrifice some depth, allowing them to take up far less space in a room. Most vivariums of this size are suitable for small and medium-sized reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates. Like other wooden vivariums, these models are better suited to dry conditions as they can warp when continually exposed to moisture. All compact vivariums require some self-assembly.

Why should I buy compact vivariums?

The majority of compact vivariums are bought to save space in smaller homes and apartments. They can be slightly cheaper than a regular vivarium and require slightly less energy to heat and light. Generally, a compact vivarium is a good alternative to a standard vivarium, as long as the space within it is still suitable for your pet.

What are the main types of compact vivariums?

The biggest differences in our compact vivarium range are between sizes and styles. Our compact vivariums run from small habitats, ideal for small geckos and invertebrates, up to larger homes for medium-sized snakes, lizards as large as Bearded dragons and amphibians. Styles include both the wood the vivariums are made from and the orientation of the vivarium. While the style is down to personal choice, the orientation can be a key factor for many animals - generally arboreal creatures like vertical enclosures while most other species like horizontal enclosures.

What should I look for?

Research is the greatest tool you can use when picking a compact vivarium for your pet. Ensure that you know exactly how much space your pet needs before making a purchase, including the orientation of the enclosure it needs. If your pet needs a high-humidity enclosure, consider investing in a glass terrarium.

What accessories do I need to buy with my compact vivarium?

Compact vivariums need certain pieces of hardware and accessories adding to them before they are ready to home your pet. Depending on the animal you intend to home you may need substrate, heating and lighting before you’re ready to house your pet. As always, we recommend thoroughly researching your pet to assess what equipment they will require before making any purchases.
