Help and advice on shopping for: Reptile Pulse Thermostats

Recreate desert heatwaves

Our pulse thermostats range recreates the heatwaves found in deserts and jungles with hardware from top reptile manufacturers including Exo Terra, Habistat and Komodo.

What are pulse thermostats?

Pulse thermostats are a special type of thermostat that turns your heating element on at regular intervals to create a constant stream of heatwaves, recreating the heat found in your pet’s natural habitat. Because these thermostats need to turn a heating element on and off multiple times a day, they are only suitable for use with ceramic heaters. The speed of the pulses allows the thermostat to precisely manage the temperature of an enclosure, increasing the number of waves to further heat an enclosure or decreasing the number to reduce the heat.

Why should I buy pulse thermostats?

Pulse thermostats create natural heatwaves that many animals prefer over constant heat. These thermostats still protect your animals from overheating and will decrease the rate of heatwaves if the enclosure is too hot but they also help relax your pet by creating an environment closer to their natural habitat. Pulse thermostats are a little more pricey than standard on/off thermostats but also much more precise and beneficial to your pet.

What are the main types of pulse thermostats?

Pulse thermostats mostly do the same job, however, there are a few differences in the range. Some pulse thermostats have an analogue dial to set while others use a more sophisticated digital readout. The more advanced pulse thermostats can switch between a variety of pulse patterns, to recreate day-night cycles or weather systems, and monitor other factors alongside heat, such as humidity, and control hardware to manage them too.

What should I look for?

Do some research into your pet and their native habitat, if it is a place known for regular heatwaves you should consider using a pulse thermostat. When it comes to setting the heat of the thermostat and the length of time between pulses, these should also be dictated by the needs of your pet.
