Heat cables help and advice

A great heating solution for multiple enclosures

While heat bulbs and ceramic heaters are a great solution for heating a single enclosure, heat cables can run through multiple enclosures, allowing you to heat all of your pets at once. Our range of heat cables includes many leading brands such as Reptile Systems and Zoo Med.

What are heat cables?

Heat cables are long lengths of cable that can be run through an enclosure, or multiple enclosures, and produce lots of heat. The cables can be run through the substrate or even along the back wall of an enclosure to heat areas of any size. As a powerful heating element, it is key that you use a heat cable alongside an on/off or pulse thermostat, in each enclosure, to prevent any of your animals from overheating.

Why should I buy heat cables?

Heat cables are extremely flexible and can be used for a lot of different tasks, but their most popular use is for multi-enclosure heating. As the cable can be run through the side of an enclosure or behind it, you can give as much cable to each enclosure as you think it needs. This means that you only need to power a single device to heat all of your enclosures, making it much more efficient and easy to maintain. For this setup to work, all your pets will need to have the same heating requirements as the cable can only produce one temperature at a time.

What are the main types of heat cables?

Heat cables are all quite similar. Each of the ones in our range is a different length and wattage so you will need to find the product that offers the right amount of cable and heat output to meet all of your animal’s needs.

What should I look for?

If you’re planning to use a multi-enclosure setup, you must plan it very carefully. Thermostats must be used in every enclosure to prevent any of your animals from overheating.
