Help and advice on shopping for: Bearded Dragon Housing

What size vivarium does my Bearded Dragon need?

A proper Bearded Dragon enclosure should be spacious enough for your beloved reptile to move around freely and, in doing so, stay healthy. As a rule of thumb, adult Bearded Dragons should be kept in a vivarium that’s roughly 120cm long, 60cm high, and 60cm deep, or roughly 400L in volume. As babies or juveniles, Bearded Dragons can be kept in smaller enclosures, but you will need upgrade their vivarium as they grow!

Can I keep more than one Bearded Dragon in the same vivarium?

Yes, you can keep multiple Bearded Dragons in the same vivarium provided there’s enough space (roughly 400L per Bearded Dragon). It’s also recommended that you only keep one male Bearded Dragon per enclosure, as they can be quite aggressive when kept alongside other males. As relatively solitary creatures, Bearded Dragons don’t need to live alongside Bearded Dragons and will happily live on their own.

What do you need in a Bearded Dragon vivarium?

A spacious vivarium will form the basis of your Bearded Dragon’s setup, but to ensure your Bearded Dragon lives a long and healthy life you’ll need to purchase some more equipment and Bearded Dragon accessories. As cold-blooded reptiles, Bearded Dragons need access to light and heat, so a powerful, UVB-emitting heat lamp is essential, as is a thermostat to control your lighting/heating equipment.

It’s also important that you fill your vivarium with some decorations, perhaps in the form of caves/hides, rocks, branches, and live plants and/or artificial plants. These will not only make your Bearded Dragon setup look the part, they’ll also provide your pet with sources of enrichment, keeping them occupied during those times when you’re not handling them or feeding them their favourite Bearded Dragon food.
