Help and advice on shopping for: Skinks for sale

Take a sneaky skink home

Known for their iconic large bodies, small arms and tiny legs, Skinks are a reptile keeping classic that have been a common pet for many years. Their relaxed disposition and wide range of colourings make them a fantastic first-time reptile.

What are Skinks?

A bit like snakes and geckos, the term ‘skink’ covers a huge range of reptiles from hundreds of different species. Skinks can be found in many environments and a variety of colours. This means that there is a Skink suited to almost every terrarium or vivarium set-up. Most skinks can be quite skittish and even a little feisty, with a couple of docile exceptions like the Pink tongue skink.

Why should I buy a Skink?

Skinks are safe and visually interesting pets. They make a good choice for an adult reptile keeper in a house with children as they can’t do much to endanger a human. Skink lifespans vary greatly with some living as long as 20 years while others living as little as 6 years. The set-up and running costs of Skinks can vary, but most are fairly affordable to keep due to their small size.

What are the main types of Skinks?

We have many species of Skink coming and going from Swell Reptiles, but some of the most common are the Fire skink, Blue tongue skink and Red eye crocodile skink. Fire skinks get their name from their orange colouration and feisty personality, which can be challenging to some reptile keepers. Blue tongue skinks are relaxed skinks that are quite comfortable being handled and tamed. Red eye crocodile skinks are some of the most visually interesting Skinks, thanks to a scaly, almost draconic, appearance however they can be quite secretive and prefer not to be handled. We also have a wide variety of reptiles for sale at Swell Reptiles such as Bearded dragons, Pacman frogs Peacock day geckos and much more.

What should I look for when purchasing a Skink?

We regularly have Skinks for sale at our Swell Aquatic and Reptile Center. While you’re there we will ask to see a picture of the proposed Skink enclosure and interview you. We reserve the right to refuse to allow the adoption of any animals to anyone we think is unprepared. To help you get ready for owning a skink we have lots of great products including books, enclosures and feed.
