Help and advice on shopping for: Hand Gels
Keep both yourself and your pet safe
While it can be lovely to get hands-on with your reptile, amphibian or invertebrate, it can also be dangerous due to the bacteria you each carry. To help protect both you and your pet from illness we’ve created a range of animal safe hand gels, including products from HabiStat and ProRep.
What are hand gels?
Hand gels are disinfectants that dry quickly on your hands, killing any bacteria or viruses living there. It’s recommended that you use a hand gel before and after handling a reptile, amphibian or invertebrate to protect both of you from any germs the other might be carrying. While few germs on your pets pose much serious danger, they can still carry a lot of bacteria and viruses that would make you sick for a couple of days and it’s the same the other way from you to them.
Why should I buy hand gels?
Hand gels are a great way to keep both you and your pet safe during handling by minimising the chance of infections and illness. Most of the gels in our range are a little more expensive than the ones you normally use to disinfect your hands as they have been specially formulated to be reptile safe.
What are the main types of hand gels?
Each of the hand gels we sell is formulated differently. Depending on the scent the company was trying to create and the methods used to create the gel, each product will be slightly different and you may find you prefer one over the others. We recommend buying a couple of different varieties and trying each of them to find the one you like the most.
What should I look for?
There’s not much to think about when it comes to buying hand gels, however, you may find it worthwhile to stock up so you’re never caught short without any.
