What are Swell Frozen Mice?
Swell Frozen Mice are flash-frozen mice that have been specifically bred to feed exotic pets, such as snakes. They are used in many snake setups and lizard setups as a staple diet as a frozen mouse provides a balanced diet of protein and vitamins. They are also a great treat for many reptiles, such as Tegus and Monitors, as well as some frogs and other amphibians. Our frozen mice are bred and frozen in accordance with food standards agency guidelines by our frozen food distributor and are kept in dry ice during transit to ensure they arrive frozen.
The Swell range of frozen mice is available in 12 different weight brackets, so you can you get the perfect size for your pet. The range starts with some of the smallest pinkies and runs up to large ex-breeder mice.

How should I prepare frozen mice for my pets?
Once you receive your mice you should immediately place them in a freezer to keep them fresh. When you are ready to feed your pets, you will need to defrost the mice carefully and then serve them in your terrarium or vivarium. This process can be difficult as you must be careful to avoid salmonella and entice your pet into feeding.
Most snakes and other reptiles may not be interested during your first attempt with defrosted food and you may need to practice to discover the best way to feed them. For more information, check out our guide on defrosting and feeding.
What should I be aware of when handling frozen food?
As with many raw human foods, the handling and usage of frozen or thawed reptile foods can pose the risk of salmonella contamination. We recommend storing frozen reptile foods separately from human foods, wearing gloves, defrosting at room temperature on newspaper or paper towels, and thoroughly disinfecting any surfaces or equipment that the frozen foods come into contact with, along with washing your hands thoroughly with soap and water immediately after using. For more detailed information, please read our salmonella help guide.
