Help and advice on shopping for: Reptile Water Filters

Keep your turtle tank tidy

Like fish tank filters, reptile water filters are designed to help keep the water in your enclosure clean and sanitary. Our reptile water filters range has everything you need to maintain the water quality in your pet’s home with high-quality products from loads of leading brands including Exo Terra and Zoo Med.

What are reptile water filters?

Reptile water filters are powerful water filters designed to remove waste and debris from the water inside your pet’s enclosure. These filters can be internal or external and need to be regularly maintained to avoid damage. Water filters will remove large pieces of waste and debris to keep levels of harmful ammonia down but you will also need to do a partial water change once a week to prevent stagnation and bacterial growth.

Why should I buy reptile water filters?

Turtles and other amphibious reptiles, such as Axolotls, can be very messy and produce a lot of waste and debris as they swim around their enclosure. A reptile water filter helps to protect your pets from the ill health that can be caused by swimming with waste. Most filters are fairly easy to install and, with proper maintenance, can withstand the test of time.

What are the main types of reptile water filters?

We sell two main types of reptile water filters; internal water filters and external water filters. Internal water filters are kept within the enclosure with your pet and tend to be a little smaller. External water filters are installed outside of the enclosure and require a little more set-up, however, they are normally much larger and require less upkeep.

What should I look for?

Buying a reptile water filter tends to be quite straightforward, in most cases budget, the size of your enclosure and the choice between an internal or external pump will make the decision easy. However, if you are still trying to choose between a few models we recommend looking at the efficiency of a pump as you will likely be running it constantly.
