Help and advice on shopping for: Beech Chip Substrates

Loose substrates for burrowing

Beech chip substrates are perfect for reptiles that live in dry environments and prefer soft bedding such as snakes, lizards and tortoises like the Royal python. We carry a great selection of beech substrates that make a great substrate for many reptiles and are cleaned for dust before packaging.

What are beech chip substrates?

Beech chip substrate consists of natural beech wood to create a good substrate for burrowing. The soft material makes it a great bed for a variety of tortoises, snakes and lizards, such as Bearded dragons, in arid habitats.

Why should I buy beech chip substrates?

Beech chip substrates are perfect for tortoises and other reptiles, especially those that enjoy dry burrowing materials to make a home out of. Natural and clean-smelling, this substrate will make your vivarium look great while providing comfortable bedding for your reptiles. Beech chips are less prone to splintering than some other substrates, so there is less risk of injury since they are more gentle on your reptile's scales and skin. When wet, the wood chips clump together, making it easy for you to recognise and remove waste from the vivarium.

What are the main types of beech chip substrates?

With virtually no dust and easy to use, beech chip substrate is available in a fine or coarse grade. Both are firm, square-shaped chips that are perfect for bearded dragons, tortoises and other reptiles.

What should I look for?

If you are choosing a substrate for your pet, consider their native habitat and the flooring they are accustomed to. Understanding substrate properties can also help you to improve the composition of your terrarium or vivarium. You will also need the right amount of substrate to keep your pet comfortable. Our own brand beech chip substrates are available in 10kg and 20kg bags.
