Help and advice on shopping for: Reptile Terrariums
Create spectacular rainforest enclosures
Reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates often have very specific requirements and need to be kept in high humidity environments. Terrariums are specially designed enclosures that can handle the high humidity needed for your pets to thrive. In our reptile terrariums range, you’ll find enclosures from leading brands including Exo Terra, Tarantula Room and Zoo Med.
What are terrariums?
The term terrarium used to refer to an enclosure designed to keep plants, while a vivarium was an enclosure designed to keep animals, however, the terms have become interchangeable in modern reptile keeping. We tend to use the word terrarium to describe an enclosure that has been designed to withstand high humidity, often built from glass or acrylic.
Why should I buy terrariums?
Glass and acrylic terrariums look sleek and modern in any room, making for a great talking point. However, the main reason to buy a terrarium over a wooden vivarium is to create high humidity enclosures, particularly good for species native to the rainforest and many types of reptiles.
What are the main types of terrariums?
The reptile terrarium range is further split into four categories; glass terrariums, acrylic terrariums, smart habitats and terrarium stands. Glass terrariums are moisture-resistant enclosures made of tempered glass. Acrylic terrariums are small enclosures that are much lighter than glass terrariums, making them ideal for storage on a bookcase. Smart habitats are unique biopods that contain everything needed to support a small reptile, amphibian or invertebrate. Terrarium stands are specially designed pieces of furniture that are reinforced to take the weight of a filled glass terrarium.
What should I look for?
You must prioritise the needs of the animal you intend on keeping within your terrarium, make sure they will have plenty of space before making a purchase. However, once you have a selection of suitable enclosures you can move on to picking the one that you feel will suit your home the best.
