Help and advice on shopping for: Gecko Supplies

What is a gecko?

A gecko is a type of lizard known for its relatively small size, large eyes, and derpy smile, as well as its fascinating ability to detach and later regenerate its tail. They’re often found in warm climates and are, typically, nocturnal (or crepuscular), meaning they’re most active at dusk and dawn. Most geckos also have adhesive pads on their feet. These pads help them climb on smooth surfaces, like rocks, tree branches, and even the glass walls of vivariums/terrariums!

What types of gecko can you keep as a pet?

There are many different types of gecko that can be kept as pets. Some, like Leopard Geckos and Crested Geckos, are great for beginners as they don’t require large vivariums and can be kept in compact vivariums that can comfortably fit in any living space. Other, larger geckos, such as Day Geckos and Leachianus Geckos, require more roomy, high-tech setups, but they can be just as rewarding to keep.

How long do geckos live for?

On average, most geckos live for 15 to 20 years, provided they’re housed correctly and given due care and attention. To ensure that your gecko lives a long and happy life, it’s important that you thoroughly research how to house it, how (and what) to feed it, and how to care for it before you bring it home from the shop.
